Grevillea Room

Grevillea.jpg

Our Grevillea Room is home for up to 22 children, aged 3 years.

The Grevillea Room is very inclusive, where the children are supported to develop friendships with everyone, learn to become more independent and make healthy, positive choices for themselves.

Our educators are energetic, friendly and love building relationships with each child. We love working with families to help link the children’s home environment with our room’s environment.

Our education program is based on the children’s experiences and inspired by their individual curiosity. We focus on group activities where everyone participates and looks out for each other.

+ Daily Rituals

7:30am - 9:00am // Arrival at Baringa - Indoor or Outdoor Learning Experiences To assist with the transition into the Grevillea room of a morning from drop off, there are activities/experiences set up which the children can explore. Outdoor play is offered.

9:00am - 9:15am // Transition Period – Regroup and tidy up time

9:15am - 9:35am // Morning group time - The Grevillea children are encouraged to sit on the group mat to greet each other and the educators in the room for the day. We start out group times with an acknowledgement of country, then a role call is done as well as a variety of experiences including counting, days of the week/what day it is today, the weather, alphabet/sounds and songs.

9:35am - 10:00am // Progressive Morning tea - During progressive morning tea if the children do not feel hungry yet they can participate in activities such as reading a book or doing a puzzle. Other children sit down at the tables in the courtyard with a plate of food and tongs to share with their peers. When the children doing the activities feel hungry, they are invited to move to sit at the table.

10:00am - 11:30am // Intentional Indoor or Outdoor Learning Experiences During this period of the day the Grevillea will usually be involved small-group activities. The children will engage in activities and experiences such as construction play with blocks, experiment with creative arts, engage in dramatic play, read, and participate in age-appropriate math or science activities, or write.

11:30am - 11:45am // Transition Period – Regroup and tidy up time

11:45am - 12:00pm // Group Time During this group time educators will do another roll call, the children will also be participating in a large group discussion or activities that relate to the program focus. The children will then slowly transition to the bathroom to wash their hands and go to the toilet before lunch time.

12:00pm - 12:30pm // Progressive Lunch time - Lunch time is in the courtyard where the children are encouraged to go sit down for their meal where they serve the food into their own bowl. The children are responsible for taking their dishes, scraping their bowls and placing the used dishes in the tub. Lunch is a progressive meal-time so the children have the option to do quiet sit-down activities or come and eat lunch. Children who choose to engage in the activities are encouraged every 5-10 minutes to come and eat.

12:30pm - 2:00pm // Quiet Rest / Sleep time Some of the Grevillea children will sleep, but as they wake up (or if they never quite get to sleep), they can select different quiet activities, such as looking at books or drawing.

2:00pm - 2:45pm // Transition Period – Quiet Indoor Experiences Regroup and tidy up time

2:45pm - 3:00pm // Group time Last group time is call is done. During this time educators will read a story of the children’s interest. The children will then transition to the bathroom to wash their hands and go to the toilet before afternoon tea.

2:30pm // Inside pack up - All children tidy up the toys which they have been playing with using the pack up song. All children outside get ready to come inside once the bell is rung, they line up at the door and go inside put hats and jackets away and also sit on the mat.

3:00pm - 3:30pm // Progressive afternoon tea - During progressive afternoon tea if the children do not feel hungry yet they can read a book or do a puzzle. Other children sit down at the tables in the courtyard with a plate of food and tongs to share with their peers. When the children doing the activities feel hungry, they can move to sit at the table.
